![]() ![]() ![]() In 1981, the Breck School, a private Episcopal school, purchased the former Golden Valley High School and Middle School property and moved from Minneapolis to the campus of the former Golden Valley schools. In 1988, it became Sandburg Middle School. Carl Sandburg Junior High School opened in 1959. Golden Valley High School was founded in 1957, and the adjacent Golden Valley Middle School was opened in 1964, and were closed in the early 1980s after the Golden Valley School District merged with the Hopkins School District. Some students attend public schools in other school districts chosen by their families under Minnesota’s open enrollment statute. Most children who live in Golden Valley attend the Robbinsdale School District or the Hopkins School District, as all of the territory of the city belongs to one or the other school district. The Breck School, a private Episcopal school. Highway 169, and Minnesota State Highways 55 and 100 are four of the main routes in the area. The 45th parallel north runs through Golden Valley, coinciding approximately with Duluth Street. It became a city in 1972.Īccording to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.55 square miles (27.32 km2), of which 10.20 square miles (26.42 km2) is land and 0.35 square miles (0.91 km2) is water. More residential development followed industry’s discovery of Golden Valley after World War II, and the village continued to grow. Residential development began after the Electric Luce Line Railroad was cut through the village in 1912.īetween 19, Golden Valley’s population increased from 692 to 2,040. ![]() During its early years, Golden Valley was an agricultural community of only a few hundred residents, full of farms, mills, and dairies.
